The wind and the little girl

One day, a girl was walking by the beach and stumbled on a pile of sand.It was the most beautiful thing she has ever seen—each grain was as white as pearls, fine as silk and oh-so soft to touch.She started to scoop them up but did not bring anything in which to place them.But as fast as she can hold them, they start to fall through her fingers and only the ones at the center of her hand remained.The little girl looked around and was sad.She would have liked to bring the whole pile home to her mom—she knew her mom would find them truly beautiful.Suddenly, a gust of wind blew by and slowly, more of the sand started to fall through her fingers.She called to the wind. “wind, why do you blow them away? You know there’s little left in my hands and I want to keep them with me forever.”The wind stood still and whispered. “God told me to blow them away until you only have enough left which you can hold.Those that fall through are meant to stay here and those at the center of your hands are meant for you.”The little girl felt hurt and confused.“But why does he only want me to have just a little when I can have the whole pile?” the wind answered “because some of those sand are meant for somebody else, and if you listen well, you’ll learn that some of them are waiting for somebody else—maybe another little girl who walks by these shores to look for them.”The little girl looked down and closed her hand over the little pile of sand in her palm.“The ones at the center of your palms will never fall through no matter how hard I blow them away.Those are the ones meant for you. The rest you will have to let go.”The little girl nodded and let go. From that day on, she walks the beach to look for other things as beautiful as that pile of sand she found that day and every time, she let go of the ones she can’t hold.The wind has taught her well and her heart has taught her even more—learn to let go and choose carefully the things you want to keep, because like the sand, only those that you hold well and are meant for you, will not be lost.
